A successful team has a lot of moving parts. And as everyone knows, none are more important than players' mothers. Most high schoolers haven't learned that motherhood is the only job that comes with no vacation. __________________________________________________________________Nicole Glavin continued her fine play against Stoneham and Reading.
______________________________________________________________Hannah Brickley has controlled the middle of the court this year in leading Melrose to thirteen consecutive wins. You can't win at chess, checkers, baseball, basketball, football, or volleyball without dominating up the middle.

___________________________________________________________________Hannah (25) and Gina Ciccone put up a double block at the 7'4" net, stifling the Reading attack. Reading could muster only 27 points during the three games yesterday, as in effect Melrose recaptured the Middlesex League volleyball crown.

In sports, we often talk about the grip we have on the ball. But as Jim Bouton wrote years ago in Ball Four, we don't often recognize the grip that the ball has on us.
